Sending, serving, trusting, & dreaming.

The Engage! program is excited to send out two young Canadians this Fall to serve with YFC ministries overseas; one to the Czech Republic and the other to the United Kingdom. The goal of these one year volunteer placements is to serve the local YFC ministry, bring hope to youth around the world, strengthen our international partnerships, and make a lasting impact in the volunteer that was sent.

Working for a Christian non-profit is certainly a change from my previous jobs (it’s not in many offices that co-workers pray for each other at the end of every meeting!), and I am so impressed by the culture of service that exists. Everyone is in it to encourage and enable each other, because they know that together we are doing God’s work. As I move into a leadership role, I look forward to the opportunity to continue to serve my team as they serve others.

When God says “go”, you go, even if you don’t understand how it will all work out. God seems to be much more interested in a heart of obedience than letting us in on the details! Every time I meet another YFC staff member and hear their heart, whether they work in Kelowna, Canada or Mwanza, Tanzania, I get a tiny slice of God’s vision and His excitement for the role I have said “yes” to. It’s these little glimpses of what God has in store that outweigh worries about finances or language barriers or lack of experience. God just keeps saying, “Trust me! This one’s gonna be good!”

Last week I had the opportunity to pick the brain of my new friend Geninne, who runs internships with Toronto Youth For Christ and Master’s College and Seminary. My goal for the Fall is to expand on what those previously in my role have built, and further develop the pre/post-trip training program that international volunteers will receive during their time with Engage!. Geninne had lots to share about cultural expectations and perspectives, and the importance of spiritual preparation. I am looking forward to moving into full-time hours, so that I will be able to give more time to this exciting project!

Your prayers, participation, encouragement, and financial support all make such a difference to me! Thank you!
